Mommy Makeover: Tops the List

The mommy makeover is still the most popular cosmetic surgery according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Recent trends indicate an increased desire for invasive plastic surgery procedures, those that require substantial recovery time. This suggests people want big changes, not just minor nips and tucks. In a recent survey of those who would get cosmetic work done almost 30% would choose a tummy tuck, 23% would want liposuction and only13% would opt for a face lift.Click over here now

The traditional mommy makeover includes:
tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
breast lift (mastopexy) plus augmentation
Liposuction (lipoplasty) on the legs, arms, stomach and lower back

Why is the mommy makeover so popular? On average women gain 25-35 pounds during a pregnancy. This added weight is stored in the breasts, abdomen, mid-section, hips, lower back, buttocks and thighs. After delivery many women are unsatisfied with their deflated “pancake” breasts, sagging tummy and general fat deposits with lack of definition on their trunk and in their legs.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons the average cost for a mommy makeover is $12,000 – $14,000. Costs vary due to geographic location of services, area of the body treated, combination of procedures and services performed and overhead costs which include anesthesia, hospital charges, nurses and surgeon’s fees.
40-54 year olds make up the largest segment of cosmetic procedures (47% of total). For this age cohort, 5.7 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2010. Many women in this age cohort have become mothers hence the moniker: mommy makeover.

Serious complications and death are infrequent with plastic surgery but the pain from the procedures can be very severe, especially the first few days following the surgery. Another consideration of any plastic surgery is the necessary maintenance for years to come. Many plastic surgeons offer “touch-up” packages for future sagging breasts and necessary liposuction revisions. It is important to remember that nothing is permanent and future lifestyle change or pregnancies can change the results of any plastic surgery. This can become costly, time consuming and painful.
